BiBBS is an exciting new type of intervention birth cohort.
We collect and analyse data from multiple sources on over 5,000 families who take part in interventions from pregnancy. This helps us understand if interventions work.
When do we collect data?
We recruit mothers, partners, and children at around 26 weeks of pregnancy to take part from the three areas of Bradford that Better Start Bradford cover, and we collect as much data as we can from that date onwards.
What kind of data do we collect?
Families consent to biological data collection (blood and hair samples), project data collection (e.g. what they take part in and when) and also complete series of questionnaires on demographics and health outcomes. They also consent to having what’s called ‘routine data’ being collected. This includes National Health Service and educational record data.
Why do we collect this data?
We collect this data so we can conduct research on whether interventions work for the population, how to improve health inequalities, how to improve access to services, and how to better support families and children in the future using a wide range of research methods.
